Evaluation

Evaluation is constructive help - we believe finding fault without offering a remedy is of little value, and will only discourage the speaker. Evaluators will offer helpful advice on how to overcome faults, together with encouragement for the future. The focus is on the good points as well as the bad. They will listen to the speech analytically and will evaluate the techinque rather then the content of the speech. The experience of the speaker is considered when an evaluation is offered but the aim of the evaluation is also to strech the speaker and encourage them to challenge themselves.

The focus of an evaluation is on providing practicble and useuable advice not to simply point out the faults with the speech.  Ultmetly a speaker comes to a speakers club to improve and so evaluators are encouraged to be candid and honest in their assesment of the speech.  The evaluator will be looking at how the speaker perfomers in a number of areas including:
  • Audibility
  • Enunciation
  • Modulation
  • Eye Contact
  • Gestures
  • Stance and Mannerisms
  • Use of notes
